Zig Zag Railway - Clarence, NSW, Australia

While I dont often heavily process my images, I wanted to try and re-create the grungy abandoned feeling to this location by using multiple exposures and strong hdr. It was quite a sight to see this carriage in its current state as I remember riding on it as a child. There was a cautious climb and walk down the carriage to get past the massive hole in the floor. It was good fun creating this image, I think it translates the mood of this location, hope you all like it! :)

Smile! - Peron's tree frog (Litoria peronii)

It was my pleasure to be taken out ‘Herping’ on the weekend and learn some tricks of the Herpetology trade. While I started out not finding a thing, plodding around like an elephant and scaring every little thing away. By the end I was able to sneak up on some slippery friends and get some nice shots. This one is my favorite from the adventure to this dam.

Some tips for newbies… Yes, you probably will get wet/muddy, no, thongs are not a practical footwear. Yes, there are tricks to seeing animals eyes, no, you probably didn't want to know there were that many spiders on the bank while you're walking around in broken thongs. Yes, you can use extension tubes to make a macro lens for this sort of photography, no, animals don’t tend to like having a lens an inch from their face so you can get maximum magnification.

Anyhoo, had a great time and got some very cool images. Thanks again to my instructor, hope you all got a laugh from my amateurish ways.

I would be interested to hear how you guys interpret this image. It was taken with the focus on the footprints in the foreground with a quite shallow depth of field which is unusual for a landscape.

The light at the end of the tunnel

The path to our destination is not always a common one. We may go down the wrong road, but as we fall as one, our shadows unite, and open, moving toward the tunnel, into lustrous radiance. There the portal stretches out, and focuses toward the silver sky. Light comes and goes; darkness always is. Find the light. Reach up for it. I took this photo on the weekend. It was so hot in Australia (43 degrees C) but so nice and cool in this tunnel, as crazy dark and creepy as it was. This is a 63 second exposure to the detail in the shadows. I actually spent about half an hour down there taking multiple exposures, however settled on this single exposure in the end.

Pause and appreciate simple beauty

Sometimes some of the most beautiful photos are the simplest. I love the simplicity of this country scene as the sun sets behind the grass and fence.

In a recent interview with Trey Ratcliff he mentioned that one of his goals is to produce an image so engaging that it stops people, even for a few seconds, to 'meditate'. And that the more people do this the better the world would be. This really resonated with me. In a consumer world where we are constantly on the move and being fed with information, to be able to stop, and think is a luxury often forgotten.
