Platypus in the wild 2I was so stoked to see a Platypus in the wild the other day. They are super rare to see and super crazy creatures!
I was so stoked to see a Platypus in the wild for the first time in my life the other day. They are very rare to see as they are quite shy animals. If you are out and about and see a bunch of bubbles rising up to the surface of a river, and are patient and quiet, you might just be lucky enough to see one for yourself. They tend to pop up to the surface swim for a few seconds then straight back down. This little guy even came right up to me in the shallow water shaking its bill back and forth through the sand looking for food.

They are the weirdest looking animals with a bill like a duck, a tail like a beaver and feet like an otter. Apparently they thought it was a hoax when first encountered and I can see why.

The platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) also known as the duck-billed platypus is a semiaquatic egg-laying mammal endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania. Together with the four species of echidna, it is one of the five extant species of monotremes, the only mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth. It is the sole living representative of its family (Ornithorhynchidae) and genus (Ornithorhynchus), though a number of related species have been found in the fossil record. You can read all about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platypus
